Case Notes : Licking County Historical Jail

Captured by Roger Caudle

The History of this Haunted Jail

This amazing building was built over 130 years ago. However, It was only an active Jail for 98 years. Opening in 1889 and closing in 1987. Infamous for the death of Carl Etherington. Where the Dry Agent (Carl) was beat to death by a mob of 5000 people then lynched in the courtyard. However, this building is also plagued with multiple tragic deaths such as suicide by fire, and near decapitation. With an open aired system jail in the summers and winters, its no wonder the inmates called this hell. However, it seems some inmates never got the chance to leave.

The Haunted Claims

Many known ghost hunting groups have visited the jail. Groups such as Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Quest have left the location claiming it to be haunted. There have been sightings of shadows walking down the corridors, Sounds of someone walking and talking, doors closing by themselves. and a semi-aggressive spirit named Davy. Zodiac Supernatural also experienced some of these plus knocking, things being moved, and even a ghostly mob come towards them.

Our Haunted Experience and Evidence

Zodiac Supernatural experienced a lot of things. There was many that was easily debunk-able. However, there was some that could not be explained. Down below i will add bullet points of what was debunked, and what was not debunked, and what was questionable.

Debunked

Captured From Video

Captured From Video

  • Knocking on the top floor/
This was debunked by finding loose Styrofoam covering a hole in the building, causing a knocking sound when the wind pushed against it, and falling back into place.

  • Knocking on the bottom floor (not Basement)/
The windows on the bottom floor are lose fitted, and when wind pushes against it, it creates a knocking sound through the floor.

  • Nurses room creating motion sickness/
The floor boards a week, but laid on top of concrete, it causes your foot steps to lightly become disoriented, created motion sickness.

Evidence

  • Knocking on walls/
Unlike the knocking made by the Windows and Styrofoam, These knocking were made on brick, and was responses to questions each time.

  • Walking on the same floor/
Multiple footsteps on the same floor, when no one else was on the floor, or moving on other floors, wind could not recreate noise.

  • Ghost mob/
While talking to Carl Etherington, We asked if he was afraid of the mob returning. When this happened Carl stopped responding to the EMF and then the sound of a ghostly mob rushed at us. Wind could not recreate sound (Windows sealed on that floor) And furnace could not make noise. Car sounds are blocked from the walls. Sound did not recreate. Sound came to response of question.

  • Multiple responses to EMF, and REM Pod/
Though we were able to debunk some responses, most responses were frequent and did not create a pattern. Most electricity was turned off in building and phones were turned off (Except to live stream)

  • Physical touch and attack/
During the investigation multiple people were grabbed, or touched. Proof of a cold touch happened in Mae Varner’s room (See history or Video for details) While Aries was being touched, the spot dropped 10 to 20 degrees. (Using a temperature Reader). Leo’s arm was also pulled to almost dislocation, but the act seemed more panic rather than aggression.

  • Apparitions/
An apparitions was caught on footage using CCTV. It has not been seen on the CCTV before, and can see as something tries to form in a room no one is at.

Questionable

  • Dog Barking/
It has been said to hear dog barking through the halls due to an inmate thinking he is a dog. The Zodiacs heard the dog bark, but haven’t been able to test what a dog bark sounds like near the building or have had a chance to recreate the sound.

  • Moving Objects/
The Zodiacs had a case where a chair was moved. The noise of a chair was captured, how ever there is no footage or proof it moved. But from memory it was moved from the wall to the center of the hallway.
